In the spirit of insufferable year-end lists, here’s our collection of the year’s ten most offensive quotes by Granite State Republicans, culled from the pages of Miscellany Blue.
10. “Men are more motivated by money than women are”
Men, by and large, make more because of some of the things they do. Their jobs are, by and large, riskier. They don’t mind working nights and weekends. They don’t mind working overtime, or outdoors in the elements. … Men are more motivated by money than women are.
– State Rep. Will Infantine (R-Manchester), in a speech opposing pay equity legislation delivered on the floor of the state House of Representatives.
9. "What will happen to a young person who is considering suicide?“
The ultimate question of liberty is "Do You Own Your Own Life." I was boo’d at the state house today for asking "If we pass this bill, what will happen to a young person who is considering suicide?" If we are going to "lock them up and deny them liberty,” do they actually own their own lives? Liberty is complicated, because my preference that someone not commit suicide does not mean that we as a society should use the force of Government to lock them up if we disagree with them on their desire to end their own life.
– A Facebook post by state Rep. George Lambert (R-Litchfield), after delivering a House speech in opposition to legislation that would have required public schools to provide suicide prevention education.
8. “The majority of people will speak Spanish and be Islamic”
Obama has opened Pandora’s Box, and it will be the end of a free enterprise, Capitalistic, Christian/Jewish Society, with a strong work ethic country, will change into a country where the majority of people will speak Spanish, and be Islamic within the next 20 years. (Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world right now, and the experts say the Caucasian Race will be a minority in 15 years, or less.) It would take a complete closing of all American borders, and the Liberals, or Progressives, as they call it, in our Country will never allow such a thing. (It would be racist, and prejudicial.) This coming September and November will be the end of our 250 years as a Republic, (which is the average lifetime of ALL Republics.)
– A Facebook post by State Rep. Bob Elliott (R-Salem) describing illegal immigration as the most important issue in the 2014 mid-term election.
7. “People, this is a totally made up family”
Who are the Obamas? I for one do not believe the Obama’s are a real family. Are the Obamas married? Is Michelle really a Michelle or a Michael? Are the girls really their daughters? Why is Obama’s records sealed? Why doesn’t anyone remember him from college? Why is there no original birth certificate? Where are his old girlfriends or boyfriends? People, this is a totally made up family.
– Former state Rep. Harry Accornero (R-Laconia), who attempted to keep President Obama off the 2012 presidential primary ballot, in a letter to the editor of the Laconia Daily Sun.
6. “Islam is a Satan-inspired and FALSE religion”
Islam is a Satan-inspired and FALSE religion. That is my 2 cents. ‘Tolerance’ is what got America into this most precarious situation. It’s time for a little bit of intolerance, and a whole lot of political incorrectness.
– Former Republican state Senate nominee Josh Youssef, in a Facebook message responding to a post by Strafford County sheriff candidate Jerry DeLemus mistaking an Internet meme picturing a lawn mowing man wearing traditional Arab garb for an Islamic terrorist.
5. “Armageddon is the cure for the Homosexual/Lesbian pathology”
ATTENTION: Christian citizens of these United States - Opposition to the Homosexual/Lesbian Political Agenda will be met with every and all conceivable actions be it criminal or even out and out murder to accomplish the complete suppression of your rights in our new world order.
P.S. Armageddon is the cure for the Homosexual/Lesbian pathology including every other vice & sin. – & may God bring it on ! ! !
– A Facebook post by state House candidate and former Rep. Jerry Bergevin (R-Manchester).
4. “Ugly as sin”
Let’s be honest. Does anyone not believe that Congressman Annie Kuster is as ugly as sin? And I hope I haven’t offended sin. … How ugly is Annie Kuster? … Annie Kuster looks more like a drag queen than most men in drag. Ouch!
– A blog posting by State Rep. Steve Vaillancourt (R-Manchester), who claimed polling data suggested state Rep. Marilinda Garcia could hold a seven to ten point advantage over Congresswoman Ann Kuster in the 2nd District congressional race because she was more attractive.
3. “They set up these 'Gun Free Zones’ for one reason”
Again we agree yet the first thing to protect children is get rid of those, “Gun Free Zones” with armed, willing and trained teachers. I really believe that they set up these “Gun Free Zones” for one reason. To have these killings and to make stiffer guns laws. To some it is the price of doing business. Very sad.
– A Facebook post by state Rep. John Burt (R-Goffstown), accusing gun safety advocates of intentionally causing the shooting deaths of school children in order to enact stronger gun safety legislation.
2. “50,000 battered women”
50,000 battered women and I still eat mine plain.
– The caption for an image posted on Facebook by state Rep. Kyle Tasker (R-Nottingham) in support of Rep. Mark Warden, who had been criticized for suggesting “a lot of people like being in abusive relationships.”
1. "I did use the 'N’ word”
While I believe the problems associated with minorities in this country are momentous, I am not phobic. My use of derogatory slang in reference to those among them undeserving of respect is no secret. It is the exercise of my 1st Amendment rights. I believe I did use the ‘N’ word in reference to the current occupant of the Whitehouse. For this I do not apologize – he meets and exceeds my criteria for such.
– Wolfeboro police commissioner Robert Copeland, after being overheard referring to President Obama as a “fucking nigger.” The 82-year-old resigned after residents protested.
