The day Jennifer Horn ‘literally runs out of the room’ to avoid addressing Young Republicans dispute
When we last checked in on the dispute between rival New Hampshire Young Republican factions, the Young Republican National Federation had voted overwhelmingly to approve the charter of the group led by executive council candidate Bob Burns.
(The dispute dates back to April of this year when the annual meeting of the Young Republicans Federation state chapter ended in chaos without electing a new slate of officers and the national organization cancelled its charter.)
The group Burns leads has now solidified its position as the state’s official Young Republicans organization, regaining control of the group’s official website, Facebook page and Twitter account.
The New Hampshire GOP, however, continues to recognize the rival faction led by state House Rep. Joe Sweeney (R-Salem). Even though the party bylaws grant a seat on the Executive Committee to the “President of the New Hampshire Young Republican Federation,” the group Burns now leads, Sweeney continues to hold the Executive Committee seat.
Yesterday, former GOP gubernatorial candidate Andrew Hemingway, an officer with the New Hampshire Young Republican Federation, appeared on GrokTalk! and described a confrontation with state party chair Jennifer Horn that took place during Monday’s Executive Committee meeting.
Hemingway attended the meeting representing the Carroll County Committee. At the end of the meeting, he says he requested that the Executive Committee address the dispute between rival Young Republican factions.
“I asked the chair, Madam Chair, there seems to be some disruption about which is the real Republican organization,” Hemingway said. “You know, we really want to win elections. We’re sick and tired of this sort of bickering back and forth.”
“What I’d like to do is, at your request,” Hemingway continued, “I’d like to make a motion that you add the Young Republican conversation to next month’s meeting, where both groups come in, both groups present their case and the Executive Committee gets to decide on who is the proper group to be sitting at this table making votes.”
Hemingway continued, “Tammy Simmons interrupts me halfway through and says, ‘Madam Chair, this is ridiculous. I move to adjourn.’ Chairman Horn immediately grabs the gavel, slams it down and says ‘adjourned’ and runs, literally runs out of the room.”
