President Reagan frequently invoked an 11th commandment on the campaign trail: Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican. Today, that stricture seems downright quaint.
A case in point involves former state House Rep. Sharleene Hurst, a conservative Republican who represented Hampton and Hampton Falls in the 1990s.
Hurst, who was edged out by Democrat Elaine Andrews-Ahearn in her 2012 comeback bid, recently took to Facebook to attack fellow Hampton Republican Rep. Fred Rice. Hurst eventually apologized to Rice – but not before accusing him of being a whiny, back-stabbing, woman-hating, liberal-loving, closet homosexual:

June 9 at 10:54pmHAMPTON STATE REPRESENTATIVE FRED RICE OPPOSES CONSERVATIVES IN HAMPTON
Well, I had been aware it was happening, and now I know it is true. Fred Rice is whining like a little school girl over State Senator Nancy Stiles having primary opposition. He thinks the National Health Care (Obama Care) Supporter should have a free ride from conservatives in the Republican Primary. Her liberal votes on Health Care Gas Tax. and other issues don’t seem to faze him in the least. Former Rep Wadell and a couple others in the Hampton Group are also with him. Fred’s attitude isn’t that odd. He wasn’t exactly the most conservative member of the Board of Selectmen. He is best buds with Dave Lang, Head of the Fire Union, and several other Democrats in Town. He was also one of the most liberal Selectmen to serve on the Board. He once tried to radically alter the form of the Town Government in an effort to get a conservative member removed! He harassed the local Taxpayers Association like he thought he was still at war. He’s been trying to get SB 2 repealed for decades so the Selectmen can have full control of the Budget again! He bellyaches about it at Republican meetings right in front of me, even though he knows that I was one of the co-sponsors of the Bill (I usually just let him ramble on. You can’t talk to him. It’s like trying to talk to a child with an owie.)
And thanks to Fred, I will have plenty of time on my hands these next few months to make other Republicans aware of people like him who are working against Good Republicans. He went behind my back and tried to set up a primary against me for the Floatarial Seat representing Hampton, Hampton Falls and Seabrook. He knew I was looking to run, but worked his little butt off to find a man to run anyway. Fortunately I haven’t filed yet. I would rather drop out than run in a campaign against another Republican (especially when I know how important it is to win that seat. I actually CARE about the Party and would rather put it’s needs above my own desires.
But I think everyone should be wondering… What kind of person pitches a hissy fit when a liberal State Senator gets a primary opponent, then tries to undermine a conservative who wants to run for State Rep? Who sais he is a conservative when he is in Concord, but acts like a liberal in his Town? Is Fred Rice even a REAL Republican or is he just one when it works for him?

June 17 at 10:12pmI JUST FOUND OUT WHY FRED RICE S A I D HE DIDN’T WANT ME TO RUN FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE……..
According to people I talk to, little Freddie is throwing a hissy fit because of a Party dispute that I had with Diane Bitter TWO YEARS AGO at a State Convention.
Now, Diane and I made up and everyone else has since moved on, but Fred keeps whining about this like a spoiled school girl who got a stain on her favorite princess dress! This is out of character for Fred; He doesn’t really like women. In fact, a lot of people in Hampton have heard that when he was in California he tried to get 5 female City Councilors off the Council and wound up so unpopular that he ran back to Hampton with his tail tucked between his legs. And as soon as he got here, he went after as many women office holders as he could, including me, Bonnie Searles, Mary Louise Woolsey, and Ginney Bridal . He can’t work with women because he bickers with them like a bratty child. He only recruits men to run for office. He REALLY likes men. He surrounds himself with ALL KINDS OF MEN here in Hampton, even liberal Democrats. Just as long as they are not gay. He is OBSESSED with gays. Men and gays. The way he acts, you would think he was a closet homosexual. Not that I am saying he is, just that he ACTS like one. He has all the time in the world for his little “mast-fest”. He is “retired”. His WIFE isn’t. She works several part time jobs to support HIM, while he goes out and plays his little game of thrones. She is a nice person. I have always liked her and felt bad for her. One of her jobs is as a substitute teacher in Seabrook. She has a low tolerance for foul language and those kids know it. She has to endure their abuse with grace and dignity. The poor woman has to numb herself with alcohol just to recover from a school day. Fred promised everyone 2 years ago that his last term would be his last term, but he couldn’t stop. He has to run. He has to meddle. You would think he would take his wonderful wife and move somewhere warm where the two of them could actually spend the rest of their lives enjoying themselves, but no. She is just a woman. We don’t count. With Fred, it is all about men.
This is going to be my last word on this. All I am going to say is if someone like Fred wants to stick around, he should try and do what is RIGHT by everyone. He should let EVERYONE participate, stop harassing me and other people, and stop hanging around with liberals and Democrats. He needs to stop undermining the Party and acting like a jackass. He also needs to tone down that man-crazy thing and learn to work with women.
I will not undermine the Party or it’s Candidates, no matter HOW ANGRY I AM. I am not saying this for Fred. I am saying this for the Republican Party. I STRONGLY SUGGEST that the REST of the PARTY do the same. If I hear of ANY REPUBLICAN supporting DEMOCRATS I will publically CALL YOU ON IT. I will not work against Fred, but if I catch him or his friends working against any Republican nominee, I will publically call him on it. This back stabbing crap has to stop!

June 19 at 9:35amAT “HIGH NOON” THE HAMPTON REPUPBLICAN TOWN COMMITTEE EXECUTIVE BOARD IS HAVING A MEETING TO DECIDE “WHAT TO DO ABOUT ME”.
I tried hard to settle my differences with Fred Rice and his clique through proper channels for TWO YEARS. When they trashed ME on the internet 2 years ago, I complained to the Party, but the Party said they couldn’t get involved. They said that it was a “freedom of speech” issue. I ended up getting on there and defending myself. I actually met some good conservatives that way, but that’s beside the point.
When Fred kept on with his back stabbing, I went to our Town Chairman SEVERAL TIMES and PLEADED WITH HIM to help, but he said he didn’t want to get involved. Fred would NOT STOP. He kept his whispering campaign going (it wasn’t just me he was attacking). No one likes having someone trash them behind their back to everyone they know. I was left with no other way to defend myself. I have to LIVE here. If I can’t depend on my Party to help me, than I have to help myself. If you try to bully me, don’t expect me to back down. I won’t. I will give it right back to you. And I won’t use lies. The truth hurts more. Yesterday morning I was actually feeling better because I was looking forward to getting on with my life and enjoying the Summer. Now the Hampton Republicans are dragging this out. And in an election year. If they had helped me when I first asked, we would have never gotten here.

June 19 at 1:06pmAs per My agreement with the Hampton Town Committee and Fred Rice, I am issuing this apology to Fred Rice and his Wife Joan for my recent postings. What I wrote was more malicious than had been intended, not true, and was said in the heat of the moment.
I am truly sorry if anything I said anything about Joan that made her seem less than a kind, decent, sober and loving lady. My intent was to speak highly of her and praise her endurance under trying circumstances. Most of us could not handle the work she does.
I will not do any more postings about Fred on Facebook or anywhere else on the internet.
Again, I am sorry.Sharleene Hurst
