Rep. JR Hoell: 'We are willing to play hardball with the 'soft squishy' types like Brown'
State House Rep. JR Hoell (R-Dunbarton) is leading another protest by gun rights advocates against Scott Brown when the former U.S. senator meets with Gun Owners of New Hampshire next week. Brown is scheduled to address the group Tuesday in Concord to discuss his position on guns and answer questions.
“Scott Brown wants to appear to be a friend of the 2nd amendment,” wrote Hoell. “Like December, we plan to be there to tell the real story.”
Hoell was referring to an anti-Brown protest he helped organized in Nashua when Brown was the featured guest for the state party’s holiday fundraiser. Protesters outnumbered party stalwarts who paid $50 each to schmooze with the senator who had just moved to New Hampshire from Massachusetts.
Hoell created a Facebook event for next week’s protest and has been promoting it among gun rights advocates.
“Scott Brown is anti-gun!!!” he wrote in one online forum. “If everyone works to get several people to the event, and we are a larger number outside than inside, we can send a message that NH cares about our Natural rights and we are no playing games with politicians.”
Hoell and other gun rights advocates point to Brown’s support for a federal assault weapons ban following the Newtown shootings and his opposition to concealed-carry reciprocity, which earned Brown an endorsement by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in the senate contest with Elizabeth Warren.
“We vote,” Hoell wrote, “and we are willing to play hardball with the ‘soft squishy’ types like Brown.”
