State House Rep. Jane Cormier (R-Alton) is exploring a run for the state Senate in District 16, the seat currently held by Sen. David Boutin (R-Hookset).
Cormier, who recently moved from Alton to Hookset for business reasons, announced the exploratory campaign on her campaign web site, jane4newhampshire.com.
Cormier is one of the most conservative members in the House, one of just ten lawmakers to receive a perfect 100% score from the conservative House Republican Alliance on its 2014 Midterm Scorecard.
She is not shy about attacking fellow Republicans for being insufficiently conservative. On GrokTalk! Saturday, Cormier said Boutin and other Republican senators have ruined the Republican Party brand.
She was asked to compare Republican Sen. Jeb Bradley with Democrats Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer. “He’s worse,” Cormier replied. “And do you know why he’s worse? And I believe this with everything in my being. He’s worse because at least those other gentlemen are standing on the platform that they say they espouse.”
“Bradley, Stiles, Boutin and others are standing on a Republican platform, which is not supposed to espouse what they have voted on, especially the big planks of our platform,” she continued. “And to me, there is no difference. That is the worst thing you can do. You have now brought down the entire party of what it is supposed to stand for and you have ruined the brand. So to me, it’s worse than being the other guys.”
Update: Cormier’s campaign web site has been taken down. You can see a couple of screenshots here and here.
