Three Republican lawmakers who took the stand yesterday as character witnesses for accused conspirator Jerry DeLemus painted a very different picture than his son, who says DeLemus believes “Jesus will embrace him” for taking part in an armed rebellion.
Kris DeLemus has been active on social media since the arrest of his father last week for his alleged role in the 2014 confrontation with federal officials at Cliven Bundy’s ranch in Nevada.
“I could not be more content in knowing that the hammer is finally coming down on him,” young DeLemus wrote in one online message. “Jerry is no patriot… just an arrogant lunatic that has delusions of his own grandeur.”
“He has waited for decades for his chance to be a part of armed rebellion in the USA,” he continued. “He truly believes that it will be ok for him to kill others that do not believe his line of thinking, and that Jesus will embrace him for this.”
‘One of the most law abiding Americans I have ever met’
In yesterday’s hearing to determine whether DeLemus will be detained until his arraignment in Nevada, state Reps. David Bates (R-Windham), John Burt (R-Goffstown) and Warren Groen (R-Rochester) took the stand to praise the Tea Party leader.
“Mr. DeLemus is one of the most law abiding Americans I have ever met,” Burt told the court. “I have always respected Mr. Delemus for his strong family values and his beliefs in God.”
“I wish you had to grow up with this man as your father!” countered young DeLemus. “None of his 5 children will have dealings with him, none of his 6 grandchildren are allowed near him, one of his 2 ex-wives has a restraining order against him, and his other ex-wife is still terrified of him after being divorced for 35 years,” he wrote. “If you ever had to deal with him as family, I guarantee that you would not be supporting this man.”
‘He’s a peacemaker’
The Concord Monitor reported Groen described DeLemus as a nonviolent conciliator, telling the court, “I would say he’s not a peacekeeper. He’s a peacemaker.”
“When Mr. DeLemus and I talked about any issue in America that we thought were not right,” Burt added, “he always talked about the peaceful and law abiding way to correct it.”
DeLemus’ son tells a different story. “He has waited for longer than I can remember for his time to take up arms against the US government, to obtain his self-proclaimed place at the Lord’s side,” he wrote in a public message to Fox News analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano. “This man is not out to help our Constitutional liberties, he is out to fulfill his own hate-filled agenda.”
“No, my father stood for his self-serving, egotistical self. He has waited for decades for his chance to be a part of armed rebellion in the US. He truly believes that it will be ok for him to kill others that do not believe his line of thinking, and that Jesus will embrace him for this.”
