Three vignettes from the past weekend provide a glimpse of how the state’s Republican lawmakers lose all sense of proportion and judgment (attributes we generally value in our elected officials) when Hillary Clinton’s name is mentioned.
Rep. JR Hoell isn’t a doctor, but he plays one on TV. The Dunbarton Republican reacted to news that Hillary Clinton has pneumonia by disputing the diagnosis. “I had pneumonia last fall,” he explained. “I was on my back for a week. One does not just get up and walk away two days later. I call this BS.”
Rep. Ralph Boehm, the Litchfield Republican running for the District 18 state Senate seat currently held by Donna Soucy, commemorated the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance with a “Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi” Facebook post.
“15 years ago Islamic Terrorists taking orders from Osama Bin Laden and Al Quaeda hijacked 4 airplanes and flew them into the World Trade center, pentagon, and heroes caused the 4th plane to crash in Pennsylvania,” Boehm wrote. “The worst attack on U.S. territory.”
“And then 4 years ago, Islamic Terrorists attacked and killed 4 embassy officials in Benghazi, Libya, and then our president and secretary of state LIED to the American people on the cause,” he added.
And then there’s this lovely meme from Rep. Gary Hopper. “Hillary Clinton is proof,” he wrote, “that you don’t have to be pretty to be a prostitute.” The Weare Republican was so proud of his work that he signed his name to it.
