In a Facebook comment, state House Rep. George Lambert (R-Litchfield) signaled his intention to run for the District 18 state Senate seat currently held by Democrat Donna Soucy (D-Manchester).
After Lambert posting a summary of his accomplishments for the year (“I had a heart attack, I dropped out of the Governors Race, oh and did I mention, I helped advance LIBERTY in a visible way?”), a friend asked, “What awaits you for the last half of the year?”
“For the latter half of 2014,” the lawmaker replied, “A New Hampshire State Senate run for District 18: Litchfield and Wards 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 in the city of Manchester.”
As a member of the House, Lambert has been outspoken in support of libertarian causes. He made headlines earlier this year when he spoke out against suicide prevention education saying “people should own their bodies” and even children have a constitutional right “to make their own decisions.”
In 2012, Lambert briefly sought the District 18 Republican nomination but withdrew when six-term Manchester Rep. Gail Barry announced her intention to seek the Republican nomination. Soucy won the general election by 17 points (51%-34%). Pres. Obama carried the district by a 51%-47% margin.
