'Dear New Hampshire: The 21st century would like to have a few words with you'
This week, we learned that Robert Copeland, the 82-year-old Wolfeboro police commissioner, called the President a “fucking nigger” in public and refuses to apologize or to resign. I grew up in the segregated South. I’m not shocked by the language. I am shocked by some of the reactions.
Case in point: a group of self-identified Lakes Region Republican women, who “promote conservative values within the community,” defended his racist slur as an expression of “individual thought” and accused his critics of engaging in a political witch hunt – political correctness run amok, they tweeted.
“Dear New Hampshire: The 21st century would like to have a few words with you,” wrote Los Angeles Times reporter Matt Pearce.
Individual thought not allowed. http://t.co/bcw9k8BGAX

If what you say in public goes against the #liberal agenda or is not PC, beware, there will be a witch hunt. #wolfeboro
